Formed in 2008, Ecthirion have released both their debut “Apocalyptic Visions” (2009) and sophomore “Psalms Of The Risen Dead” (2018) on Soundmass. Why the long span between releases? Apart from the demands of life, the creative process behind the band’s brand of orchestral metal is slow and meticulous, but it always culminates in something fantastic. Incorporating a broad range of influences and contrasts, Ecthirion’s aim has always been to produce unique and thought-provoking compositions, both musically and lyrically. You will hear elements of power metal, death metal and even tech death, plus some folk influences to bring variety. Also very much inspired by nature, some songs are intense – reflective of raging torrents – while others are brooding and serene. Ecthirion never fail in bringing you their authentic, emotive and opulent neoclassical metal sound.
Like preceding releases, the new Ecthirion album – “King Of Wormwood” – has taken time to realise, with the earliest elements of it having been created in 2014. However, with busy, shifting lives and time passing by, the band decided to bite the bullet and release the album, rather than it lying dormant for years to come. So what you’re getting is a slightly rawer demo Ecthirion as they jot down their ideas into audio form. Yes, the results are a little humbler, but nonetheless still wonderful.
