Dark Night formed in Brazil in 2008. With a stable lineup, they released their first album in 2011 and then another one every year after until folding in 2020.

Musically, the first thing that has to be said about Dark Night is that they are a must for fans of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. They absolutely nail their sound, including the vocalists near perfect imitation of King Diamond’s falsetto and clean vocals. They lyrical themes are even the same – horror, occult, darkness – but this time from a Christian perspective. Where the music does vary from this likeness is where it is a bit less proggy and a bit more aggressive, which works a treat.

The first 7 of Dark Night’s 10 albums have been given the CD treatment – multiple versions by multiple labels – but not so their last few albums, which have only been available to stream/download. So Soundmass is venturing out into the Dark Night with the release of “Son Of The Moon” – their 8th album – which was recorded in 2018. If you like your metal music to create a surreal, edgy and slightly insane soundscape, but this time inspired by the King of Kings, then Dark Night is your band.

Note: this is a limited edition pressing of only 100 hand-numbered copies (on silver replicated discs, not CD-Rs). Seemed very apt given it is the 100th release on the Soundmass label!
